Mixed bag at El Bosquet on Tuesday & Wednesday

Posted on October 18th, 2016 by admin

The 6th round of the Winter Series was fished at the El Bosquet Complex on the 18th October.

It was a bit mucky under foot with rain early on, but it did dry up later in the day.

There was a good turn out, but weights were not great and our new member Ian Brown only needed to take over 18kgs to take the top place, is the cooler weather and the rain possibly beginning to put the fish off feeding?

Pellet was the top bait of the day with bread for the Mullet.

1st Ian Brown with 18.220kgs fishing the pole with banded hard pellet

2nd Terry Screen with 15.680kgs fishing the pole using pellet

3rd Bob Rafferty with 12.900kgs fishing the pole using corn

We also fished the El Bosquet Complex for this week?s open match on the 19th October.

With a match fished here yesterday, anglers were optimistic about the weights and it was also raining, but again it did dry up later in the day.

Wow! What a good day it was for some, with Lennie weighing in over 35kgs only to be told he was in second place, as yes you guessed right, Neil (The Boy) once again smashed the record here with over 42kgs, both of them using bread and pellet for bait.

1st Neil McBirnie with 42.120kgs

2nd Lennie Bolton with 35.280kgs

3rd Bill Reade with 19.120kgs

All fishing the pole using bread and pellet

ABBEY ANGLING

We fished the 1st match of the Winter Series at the El Bosquet Complex on the 6th September
It was a good turnout considering this is still the holiday period and with the heat.
With Lennie drawing peg 15 it was a foregone conclusion that the rest of us where now fishing for second spot, he fished the pole with the monkey using pellet to mass another excellent weight of over 37kgs to take top spot and it was Richard Wood who took 2nd place on peg one with 19.700kgs fishing the method feeder using luncheon meat

Good weights were expected after the results of the match fished here yesterday, pellet seems to be the in bait at the present time.
Neil the ?Boy? is back to his winning ways taking top spot with over 33kgs, and nice to see Dave Hoare making a comeback after a lean spell, taking 2nd place with 27.680kgs and Bill Reade Mr Consistency taking 3rd place with 26.620kgs

A warning to everyone fishing the El Bosquet Complex, the Police had a purge last Friday, booking anglers for no licences on them or inappropriate Valencia licences(must be the small card not the paper receipt issued by La Mata Town Hall) and for having no proof of identity with them.
Also when you pay and receive your day ticket, you need to print your name and NIE number on the front of it to be legal

Mick Hill excelled on first of recent visits to Pedrera.

ABBEY ANGLING

This week?s open match was fished on the Embalsa de Pedrera on the 9th August.? All the matches that are now going to be fished at Pedrera have been officially booked with the Valencia Federation. This is only the second match that has been fished here in approximately three years; hopefully with the bait going in the fish will start to congregate on the edges of the lake and fishing will improve.
Once again the dirty picnicers and pleasure fishermen have left all their rubbish behind, in carrier bags and bottles and cans etc just thrown on the bank, last Saturday there were two Russians fishing with nine rods out, why are the Petrona not doing anything about it? Fish were hard to come by with seven dry nets, but Mick Hill excelled with the top spot of five Carp and one Barbel taken on the feeder using corn, Well Done!, there was no Bleak showing at all.

1st Mick Hill with 6.260kgs fishing the feeder using corn
2nd Bill Reade with 5.220kgs fishing the waggler and straight lead with hemp and tares
3rd Danny Kerkhof with 3.560kgs fishing the feeder using pellet

First El Bosquet open of the summer produced big weights.

ABBEY ANGLING

We fished our first open match of August at the El Bosquet Complex on the 2nd August.
Considering there are now no club matches in August due to the excess heat, there was a very good turn-out, and a good days fishing was enjoyed by everyone.
There were five weights of over 20kgs, and a total of eleven anglers with double figures. Both Jackie Breslin and Steve Budd having an exceptional day each with over 20kgs of fish, the two of them reaching their PB?s in contests

1st Tony Macmillan with 24.500kgs fishing the pole using bread
2nd Neil McBirnie with 22.620kgs fishing the pole using pellet
3rd Bill Reade with 21.820kgs fishing the pole using maggot

Open matches are being held during August, if interested please contact me for details

On the 3rd August my self and the two Richards i.e. Wood and King fished at The Embalsa de Argos. We had a total catch of 126.51kgs, with the best weight being 52.880kgs; this water is really fishing well and has now dropped by approx six feet, it is a long way to travel but well worth it for an excellent days fishing

We fished the 10th and final match of the Summer Series at the river Segura on the 26th July. There was only one double figure weight and unfortunately four dry nets, which you would not expect for this time of the year, the only thing everyone seemed to be catching plenty of was the Terrapins!!

1st Richard Wood with 10.240kgs fishing the method using corn
2nd Richard King with 4.500kgs fishing the method using corn
3rd Danny Kerkhof with 3.600kgs fishing the method using pellets

RODS & REELS

This week?s final 14th round of the Summer Series was fished on the river Segura at Murcia on the 27th July.
By the state of the river and the rubbish still floating down, they have definitely not finished the dredging as yet and the fishing is still hard going. Richard Wood made it a double by taking the top spot again today and fishing the method feeder using corn.

1st Richard Wood with 11.520kgs fishing the method using corn
2nd Terry Screen with 9.600kgs fishing the method using bread
3rd Bill Reade with 9.200kgs fishing the method using corn

Points were tight for the cup with only a couple of points separating the top four, but the overall winners of the Summer Series best 9 from 14 matches were:

FIRST T Screen with 19points
SECOND B Reade with 22points
THIRD L Bolton with 23points

We will begin fishing matches again in September and all of the matches will be opens until Xmas time

The venue record falls at El Bosquet

Posted on July 16th, 2016 by admin

ABBEY ANGLING

We fished the 8th round of the Summer Series at the El Bosquet Complex on the 12th July.
The match record for this water has now been smashed with a catch of 38.700kgs taken on the monkey using bread and pellet, that is 6kgs better than the previous record and of course the man who broke it is the one and only Lennie Bolton (well done)
Richard King also had a notable catch of 26.220kgs to take second place; this water is now fishing really well with all the anglers catching in the match. The method feeder is now producing fish.

1st Lennie Bolton with 38.700kgs fishing the pole and monkey using pellet and bread
2nd Richard King with 26.220kgs fishing the method feeder using corn
3rd Dave Hutchinson with 23.750kgs fishing the pole using bread and corn

RODS & REELS

The 12th round of the Summer Series was fished on the river Segura at Murcia on the 13th July.
At last the water seems to be clearing a little bit, and there was very few reeds and debris floating down, perhaps they have now finished working above which is making the feeder fishing much easier.
Fish are still hard to come by, with very few Bleak being caught, and just six fish needed to take top spot

1st Terry Screen with 7.900kgs fishing the method feeder using bread and corn
2nd Bill Reade with 6.500kgs fishing the method feeder using bread and corn
3rd Barry Homer with 6.300kgs fishing the feeder using bread

ABBEY ANGLING

The 7th round of the Summer Series was fished on the river Segura at Murcia on the 5th July.
The weights were down here from last week?s match, with the top weights just making double figures.
Marlene Hutchinson taking top spot proving that she can compete with the top anglers, I must stop giving her any more tuition, as she is getting too good. The small fish and the Bleak are in very short supply at present, with only the bigger fish responding.
There is a rumour that the water here will be restocked in September, as a large Spanish Competition is due to be fished here, we hope so?

1st Marlene Hutchinson with 11.140kgs fishing the feeder using corn
2nd Dave Hutchinson with 10.140kgs fishing the method feeder using corn
3rd Richard Wood with 10.120kgs fishing the method feeder using corn

We fished the 11th round of the summer series at the El Bosquet Complex on the 6th July.
The water here is now fishing well, with everyone in the match catching fish, and the fish responding well to all baits with the pole being the dominate method.
The Mullet are a bit of a pest as they are hard to hook, but when you do get one it is usually a good one and is around half a kilo plus in weight.

1st Bill Reade with 22.420kgs fishing the pole using bread and pellet
2nd Terry Screen with 19.440kgs fishing the pole using casters
3rd Lennie Bolton with 17.860kgs fishing the pole using bread and casters

Argos – Small carp growing!

Posted on July 2nd, 2016 by admin

ABBEY ANGLING

The 6th round of the Summer Series was fished at the Embalsa de Argos on the 28th June.
The water levels are now receding rapidly, and with the hot weather now here the fish are responding to the paste. The hoards of Barbel that where caught earlier on in the year, now seem to be reluctant to feed up in the water, but the small Carp that where a menace last year, have now grown into half pound fish which can now be caught on the paste.

1st Dave Hutchinson with 34.540kgs Fishing the pole using paste
2nd Richard King with 33.100kgs fishing the method feeder using corn
3rd Terry Screen with 32.760kgs fishing the pole using paste

RODS & REELS

The 10th round of the Summer Series was fished on the river Segura at Murcia on the 29th June.
It looks as if they are still working on the water above the Town centre, as lots of rafts of reeds and debris is coming down the river, and the water has still got the milky grey colour to it. Match reports from last week showed the venue to be fishing very poor with hardly any weights and just a couple of kilos winning the match as it turned out it was not a very good day for us anglers either. Dave Hutchinson had an excellent weight, but for the rest of us it was very poor for the time of year with four dry nets, mine being one of them.

1st Dave Hutchinson with 24.600kgs
2nd Tony Macmillan with 11.580kgs
3rd Lennie Bolton with 8.460kgs
All fishing the feeder using corn

Four of us went to clean the back channel at El Bosquet on Saturday, Stuart Taylor, Barry Homer a potential new member Martin and myself, ie: 4 men in a boat and then 4 men out of the boat and in the water, and I can not swim, but the b—— left me in there laughing and telling me ?You will be able to swim when you get out from there? Luckily no one took any photographs!

ABBEY ANGLING

The 4th round of the Summer Series was fished on the river Segura on the 14th June.
With no recent rain there is still plenty of water with a strong flow on it. The method to use here is the lollipop with floats taking up to 6grams, feeder on the pole or rod, and the Terrapins are now very active with one angler managing to net fourteen in the first hour. Dave Hutchinson seems to have the method here cracked with two wins off the two matches fished here.

1st Dave Hutchinson with 8.980kgs fishing the pole using corn
2nd Bill Reade with 8.480kgs fishing the pole and feeder using corn
3rd Richard King with 7.860kgs fishing the method feeder using corn

This week we fished the Annual Memorial Match on the El Bosquet Complex on the 15th June. With the hot weather now here, the water has really come alive with good weights being produced.? Sue Swann excelled herself with a net of over 12kgs taken on the feeder; she also lost some big fish. Fish were caught on all types of bait, being corn, maggot, bread and paste, with the pole the dominate method.

1st Terry Screen with 32.000kgs fishing the pole using corn and pellet
2nd Lennie Bolton with 28.760kgs fishing the pole using corn and pellet
3rd Richard Wood with 27.580kgs fishing the pole using bread

P.S: Are you the dirty fisherman who fished peg 12 on the oblong last week, and left 2 empty sweet corn tins and a beer can in the reeds by the waters edge.
If so SHAME ON YOU!! With a litter bin less than 10 yards away from you. Please take more care of the environment and pick up your rubbish.

Also I do not know the full facts as yet, but rumours have it that over 100,000 people attended last week?s rally in Madrid organized by the Spanish Federation, and that the motion passed by the environmentalists to eradicate all non indigenous species of fish from the waters in Spain has been over-ruled and squashed.
We trust this is correct and await confirmation of this from the Spanish federation in due course.
